Sherrill Miller
Biography
Sherrill Miller studied art at U.C. Berkeley and Bennington College and continued art studies at the Laguna Beach Art and Design Center. During this time, she was drawn to the Chinese style and Taoist philosophy of landscape painting. She studied with a master of Chinese painting where she learned about the harmonious relationship of man to nature. In the early 1970’s, Miller became disappointed in college art programs, so she pursued a long career in psychotherapy and career counseling. Later she returned to the landscape as a way to reconnect with the environment.
The scenes she enjoys painting are the ones she is most familiar with: the hills, oaks and eucalyptus of the North Bay; and the beaches of Laguna where she spends her summers. She has seen how the population growth has devastated the countryside of Southern California, so it is important to her to paint scenes of Marin that may disappear. In December, 1997; with a small group of local landscape artists she helped to form the “BayWood Artists.”
Miller’s art work has been represented by the Bluebird Gallery in Laguna Beach Sausalito Art Collections and the Lito Gallery in Sausalito. She has shown her work in various Marin art shows including MarinScapes. Her work is currently available through her studio in San Rafael.
She is a member of several art organizations including California Art Club, Laguna Plein Air Association and the Marin Arts Council.
